A video is getting viral on social media platforms. Massive violence can be seen in this video. Not only this, but the video also shows that a police van is set ablaze by the locals. Social media users are claiming that these violent clashes are being erupted by Rohingyas from Bangladesh, along with the TMC goons who intend to kill the entire West Bengal.
A user named Vasu posted a video on Twitter and wrote: “Mamata Banerjee brought the Rohingyas from Bangladesh for her and gave them ration card voter ID free homes. These rakshasas are now with the TMC goondas and are killing the whole of West Bengal and burning houses”.
Fact-Check
To know the reality of this viral video, the Dfrac team converted this video into some keyframes. We found a video on a YouTube channel named ONA Khabar with the title: “Protest over the man’s death At Bhadrak || 14th January 2021”.
The scene shown at 6:23 minutes in the video, posted by this channel, is similar to one of the scenes of the above viral video.
In addition to that, when we reverse-searched it on Google. We found news published by a news website named ‘Odishatv.in‘ on January 13, 2021, with the headline: “Mob Torches Police Van After Youth’s Death In Bhadrak”. According to this news: Angry after the suicide of a youth, Locals in Bhadrak set a police van on fire. As per media reports, the youth had been assaulted by the police during an interrogation over a recent case after which the youth had committed suicide by jumping into the village pond.
Conclusion
It is clear from Dfrac’s Fact-Check that the claims of social media users related to viral video are misleading since the viral video is associated with the news of the suicide of youth in Bhadrak, Odisha, not with the violent clashes erupted by Rohingyas in West Bengal.
