A claim of the former chairperson of the State Bank of India (SBI) Arundhati Bhattacharya, on the 2016 demonetization is getting viral on social media.
In the viral post, a placard is seen with the SBI’s logo at the back with Bhattacharya’s picture in the front. Beneath this sentence is written in Hindi which when translated to English states, “There is no freedom of speech in Modi government.” Spoke Arundhati Bhattacharya after retirement, “demonetization was a fatal decision.”
A verified user by the name of kirti azad writes, “ Godi media does not report this or will they.”

Fact Check:
When the DFRAC team investigated the claim using certain keywords on Google, we could not find any official news of Arundhati Bhattacharya making such a statement.
Further, Arundhati Bhattacharya said in a telephonic interview to ‘The Indian Express “The post going viral in my name is completely false. People are using my photo from before 2017, with the SBI logo behind me, and spreading this false statement with that photo.”
Conclusion:
With the investigation, it is clear that Arundhati Bhattacharya did not give any such statement. The viral claim is fake
