A picture is getting viral on social media sites. It can be seen that Bjp members and congress members are sitting together. Social media users are claiming that BJP members and Congress members are doing a secret meeting.

Fact Check:

To know the reality of the viral claim the team of DFRAC did a reverse image search and found the report covered by the Times of India which was uploaded on August 11, 2021. The headline states- “ Rare Photo-op: PM Modi, Amit Shah with Sonia Gandhi and Sukhbir Badal as they met speaker Om Birla.”

Hindustan Times had also covered this report with the heading- “ PM Modi, Sonia Gandhi at Speaker’s meet with parties post Lok Sabha adjournment.”

On further searches, the team found the tweet was done by Om Birla with the caption: “ After the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned indefinitely, urged the leaders of all parties to encourage discussion and dialogue in the House in future for the welfare of the people and to remove their shortcomings.” ( English Translation)

The reports mention about After the Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Wednesday, top leaders of several political parties went to meet speaker Om Birla in his official chamber in Parliament.

Those who met Om Birla included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi. Leaders of some other opposition parties such as Trinamool Congress (TMC), Biju Janata Dal (BJD), and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) also met the speaker.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament commenced on July 19. The Lok Sabha was scheduled to function till August 13. However, it was adjourned sine die two days ahead of the scheduled date.

Speaker Om Birla expressed disappointment as the Lok Sabha functioned much below expectations during the Monsoon Session. 

Birla was Informed that the Lok Sabha functioned for only 21 hours during the entire Monsoon Session and its productivity was at 22 percent.

It is clear from the fact check of DFRAC that the viral picture of BJP members and congress members is from 2021 not recent. Therefore the claim made by social media users is Misleading
