The old video of Russia is getting viral with a misleading claim. Read- Fact check

A video is getting viral on social media sites regarding the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar. Social media users are claiming that Muslims pray Namaz in the middle of the stadium in Qatar.

By sharing this video a social media user named Nidae Izhar captioned in Bengali: “বিশ্বকাপ ফুটবলের মাঠের মধ্যে নামাজ “কাতার” যেন সমস্ত দিকথেকে ইসলামের সৌন্দর্য ফুটিয়ে তোলার চেষ্টা করে যাচ্ছে!”. Namaz “Qatar” in the World Cup football field is trying to capture the beauty of Islam from all sides!” ( English Translation)

Fact Check:

To analyze the reality of the viral video the team of DFRAC did a reverse image search on google and the team found a tweet related to the same video by the Kupwara news network KNN on 14 Feb,2022. The heading-” During a match in the stadium at Kazan, Russia, it was time for Zuhar prayers. The match was stopped and the players and the spectators offered Namaz in the stadium. Kazan is the fifth-largest city in Russia and the most populous city on the Volga, as well as the Volga Federal District. In 1438, Kazan became the capital of the Khanate of Kazan.”

On further analysis of the viral video, the team found many youtube channel has also uploaded this video which was 3 years old and can be seen here. The headline stated: Praying in the stadium. Namaz in Kazan Stadium Russia.

Conclusion:

It is clear from the fact check of the DFRAC that the viral video is 3 years old and the Muslim praying Namaz in Kazan stadium Russia not in Qatar. Therefore, the claim done by social media users is misleading
