A video is being shared on social media claiming that some people tried to incite religious agitation by hoisting a blue flag on an ancient temple in Alwar, Rajasthan. In this video, some people can be seen with blue flags in the temple premises.
Sharing this video, a user wrote, ‘Bhajanlal Sharma ji, take such action against these poisonous people that it becomes an example. Caste-based ruckus in the name of Baba Saheb is now taking an extremist form climbing the dome of the temple in Alwar and hoisting blue flags is an attack on the temple if the temple is so dear to you, then go with your head bowed who is stopping you?’

Fact Check:
The DFRAC team’s investigation found that no such incident has occurred recently in Alwar. The viral video is from an old incident that occurred in 2024. Upon reverse image search of the keyframes, we found the video uploaded on a YouTube channel on April 18, 2024, which clearly shows that the viral video is not recent.
For further verification, we checked the temple’s location on Google Maps in Alwar. The temple is located at Hope Circus in Alwar.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Police, while sharing information about the viral video, said it is not a recent incident but a two-year-old one. Refuting the viral claims, the police tweeted, ‘Beware of fake news! Such fake news is refuted by the Rajasthan Police. A video is being shared on various social media platforms claiming that an ancient temple in Alwar has been vandalised. Fact-check revealed that the video being made viral is about 2 years old. This video has no connection to the current situation or recent events. This type of misleading information has the potential to disrupt social harmony. Rajasthan Police urges everyone to verify the veracity of any news/video before sharing it. Legal action will be taken against those who spread rumors or share fake news. In another tweet, the Alwar police stated that the video is from a two-year-old incident, and that police action was taken against the accused at the time. The police wrote, ‘The incident is two years old, and police action has already been taken. Do not spread false news, action will be taken against you as per the rules.’

DFRAC’s fact check clearly shows that there has been no recent incident of a blue flag being hoisted on a temple in Alwar. According to the police, this video is of a two-year-old incident, hence the users’ claim is misleading.
