A video was shared on social media, which shows a devastating rainfall, along with hailstones, falling on cars parked on the road, due to which houses and cars have been badly damaged. The user who shared this video has described it as Dehradun. The text is written on the video is, “in Dehradun, the pellets rained down, causing devastation. Daily life was affected due to the heavy rain.”
While sharing this video, it is written in the caption: “In a moment, everything was destroyed. Be sure to watch till the end of the video, how these white stones mix everything into the soil. Seeing this scene, the soul will tremble. What happened at 0:15 seconds of the video did you notice?”
Fact-check
On analysing the viral video, the DFRAC team found that it is AI-generated and no recent incident of heavy rainfall or hailstones has happened in Dehradun. The winter season in India is typically dry, with very low rainfall during this time. Additionally, we checked the viral video on AI detecting tools, Hive Moderation and Deepfake O Meter; the result was that the viral video is AI-generated.

For further investigation, our team contacted journalist Vikas Kumar. Vikas said that no hailstone incident has happened in Dehradun. He also said that the area shown in the video does not look like Dehradun. At the same time, our team contacted Atif Malik, a resident of Dehradun. He also told us the same that no such snowfall has happened in Dehradun. He also said that the weather in Dehradun is completely clear and no snowfall or heavy rain has occurred.
Conclusion
From the fact check of DFRAC, it is clear that the video shared on social media is AI-generated. No incident like large balls of ice falling has happened in Dehradun. Therefore, the user’s claim is fake.
