“This video is not from Bangladesh or Pakistan but from our West Bengal, where Mamata Bano’s government is in power… >This boy is being beaten because this is a Muslim-majority area and it is their market. This Hindu boy had set up his vegetable cart here… >Angered by this, the extremist religious people tied the Hindu boy and beat him, saying that you kafirs have no place here…”
Fact Check:
To verify the viral video, the DFRAC team first watched the video carefully. We found some Bengali text written on the T-shirt of the youth in the video. When translated using Google Lens, we found that the T-shirt read: “Trinayani Yuba Sangh – Jagatpur, Lalmayi, Comilla.” Further investigation led us to the Facebook page of Trinayani Yuba Sangh, where the location is given as Comilla, Bangladesh.

For more information about this video, our team searched some keywords on Google regarding the beating of a youth in Comilla. We found several posts on social media dated 13 and 14 October, in which it was stated that a youth was beaten in Laksham Nagar, Comilla, on allegations of theft in a mosque.

Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact check makes it clear that the video of the youth being beaten is from Comilla, Bangladesh, where a youth was beaten on allegations of theft in a mosque. It is being falsely and communally claimed that it shows a Hindu youth being beaten by Muslims in West Bengal.
