Fact Check en

A video has been shared on social media. In this video, the body of a young woman can be seen placed inside a suitcase. Further in the video, a young woman can be heard introducing herself as Tanisha Kumari and talking about getting married to a man named Nasim. Users are claiming that Tanisha married Nasim, but now her body has been found inside a suitcase.

A user named Vini shared the video and wrote, “One more Love Jehad. Tanisha Kumari ran away with Naseem and accepted Islam. This was bound to happen later. Found inside a suitcase.”

Apart from this, several other users have also shared the same video with similar claims, which can be seen here, here, here, here and here.

Fact Check

The DFRAC team found in its investigation that the viral claim on social media is misleading. The photo of the body in a suitcase that is being shared is not from Moradabad, but from an incident that took place in Piran Kaliyar area of Uttarakhand in March 2022. We also found several media reports about this incident, including from ETV, which stated that Ramsha, daughter of Rashid, was murdered by her lover Gulzaib, son of Sanawwar.

We also found a copy of the FIR related to this incident on the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) portal, which can be seen here.

For further investigation, our team searched for information about the couple seen in the viral video. We found several media reports from TV9 Bharatvarsh and News18 Hindi, which mentioned that “the case is from the Dilari area of Moradabad. A 22-year-old woman named Tanisha Kumari had been missing for the past few days. Her worried father had also filed a missing report at the police station. However, now a video of the same Tanisha has gone viral on social media, in which she can clearly be seen saying that she left home of her own free will and went with her Muslim lover who lives in the same village.”

For more information, our team contacted the Dilari Police Station. The police told us that no such incident of a body being found inside a suitcase has occurred in the Dilari area. They also appealed to the public not to share misleading information on social media.

Conclusion

The DFRAC fact check clearly shows that the claim made on social media is misleading. The photo of the body in a suitcase is from an old incident in Uttarakhand. According to Dilari Police, there has been no such incident of a body being found inside a suitcase.
