Fact Check
Upon investigation, we found the claim to be Fake. We reviewed the official account @ ARG_1880, the verified handle of Afghanistan’s Presidential Palace (now serving as the Cabinet’s office under the Taliban government). The account’s latest post mentions the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs attending the Red Crescent Week Ceremony.
No press release dated October 15 (as shown in the viral graphic) exists. The only nearby update, from October 13, concerns a message of condolence regarding protests in Pakistan. We further checked the official pages of Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry and Foreign Ministry. Neither contained any press release or statement requesting a ceasefire with Pakistan.
Media reports confirm that Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the truce was reached “at Afghanistan’s request”, while Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stated it was “at the insistence of Pakistan.” The two sides differ on who initiated the ceasefire, but the Taliban government issued no formal request letter or announcement.
Conclusion:
The viral graphic claiming that the Afghan Taliban government officially requested a ceasefire with Pakistan is fake. No such press release or statement exists on any verified Taliban government channel or in credible media sources.
