Leaders from throughout Eurasia gathered in Tianjin, China, for the SCO Summit 2025 to talk about global issues, economic cooperation, and regional security.

Amidst this, Pakistan-based accounts have shared the claim stating, “Armenia will cancel some Indian weapon purchase, after establishing ties with Azerbaijan & Pakistan”.

The users who shared the claim can be viewed here.

Fact Check

Upon investigation, we found the claim to be Fake. According to a report published in the Economic Times on May 20, 2025, the second batch of Akash-1S surface-to-air missile systems is set for delivery in June 2025, following the first batch that arrived in November 2024. The agreement, worth around ₹720 crore (approximately 90 million US dollars), covers a total of fifteen Akash units.

We also reviewed statements from the official account of Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and there is no mention anywhere of rejecting or cancelling any defense agreement with India.

Armenia and Pakistan indeed established diplomatic relations during the SCO Summit 2025, ending more than three decades of non-recognition by Pakistan. However, there is no evidence to suggest that this new diplomatic step has affected Armenia’s military cooperation with India.

Conclusion

The viral claim is Fake. While Armenia has indeed opened diplomatic ties with Pakistan, there has been no cancellation of its defense agreements with India.
