Fact Check: No Evidence Iran arrested IRGC Official for Spying for India

On social media platform X, some Pakistan-based accounts have circulated a claim. An account named ‘TacticalTribun’ claimed “Iran has arrested an IRGC official, Ahmad Ghadiri, for leaking sensitive data to Indian and Israel agencies.” The claim was posted on 7 August 2025.

Fact Check

DFRAC investigated the viral claim and found it to be False. No such case is found in the published verified news sources or in government reports of Iran. 

Iranian media outlet Mizan Online reported that recent executions or arrests under espionage accusations publicly include Rouzbeh Vadi, Mohammad Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh, and Esmail Fekri all of whom were accused of working on behalf of Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, with no Indian connection mentioned.

In a report by AP, Mehdi Asgharzadeh, another person has been executed. Because of suspected ISIS associations, as opposed to reasons of espionage. There is no report where the name “Ahmad Ghadiri” or any Indian tie has been referred to.

In June 2025, the Iranian security arrested some 700 Iranians. They were suspected to be the agents of Israel after a spate of alleged Israeli drone attacks. These arrests were done to combat people who were involved in espionage and sabotage.
