A viral post claims that China is preparing to block all its river flow to India. This is in response to India’s suspension of Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.
Post is shared with an edited image featuring flags of India and Pakistan in background and Chinese President Xi Jinping in foreground. Text shared with this post says, “BREAKING China preparing to block all its river flow to India in Response of Breaking the Indus water treaty by India.”

Here is another image posted on social media which says, “Just in, China is preparing to block all its river flow to India in response of breaking the Indus Water Treaty.”

Fact Check
To investigate the viral claim on X, the DFRAC conducted a keyword search with relevant keywords. No news reports or articles appeared online after making doing this keyword search.
There is no mention of such statement made by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The People’s Republic of China. On its official website, no circular or statement has been released which clearly states that China will stop the flow of rivers from its frontiers into India.

On China MFA Spokesperson official profile on X, no such statement or a press release been issued which informs of such drastic step by China to stop the flow of river waters to India.

A news report on China’s Global Times published the response of Chinese FM spokesperson Guo Jiakun in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir. The Chinese FM spokesperson said that China has taken note of relevant reports and strongly condemns the attack.

They extended their condolences and expressed sympathy to the bereaved families, and oppose terrorism in all its forms.
Conclusion
Hence, it is clear from the fact check by DFRAC that the viral claim is fake. The Chinese foreign ministry or its spokesperson have not issued such statement of blocking river water to India.
