A video is going viral on social media which shows people in large numbers flocked at in Mumbai at Gateway of India. They are holding placards saying “I Don’t Speak Marathi” and “Please don’t lebel us as traitor.”
A user, Ninad Sawant, has posted this video on X with a caption: “They want to live in Maharashtra, earn here, and enjoy the facilities available here, but openly oppose the local language.
If these placard-holders go abroad tomorrow, they will learn English, French, or German. But they find it troublesome to learn the language of their own country.”
The user has also tagged Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. And shared this video on 9 April 2025.
Fact Check
To investigate the viral video, the DFRAC conducted a keyword search to get latest news reports on such protests in Mumbai. However, we could not get any news reports that suggest that such a protest was ever staged in Mumbai or elsewhere.
After this, an AI detection test for the video using Hive Moderation tool gave a 97 percent likelihood for the video to be AI-generated content. It gave a 96 percent likelihood to be made by using Sora, a service by Open AI for AI generated videos.

Furthermore, keyword search with multiple keywords like paribhraman social media, paribhraman twitter, paribhraman facebook went ashtray. While, keyword paribhraman instagram, led DFRAC to an Instagram profile which shared the video originally.
This sort of keyword search was done because the term ‘PARIBHRAMAN’ is there on the lower right corner of the video.
This Instagram profile belongs to an individual named Manab Gogoi. He has over 133,000 followers on the social media site. This individual has shared multiple AI-generated videos on his profile.

Conclusion
Thus, the fact-check by DFRAC reveals that the viral video is AI-generated and is fake. No such protest has taken place against Marathi Language at Mumbai’s Gateway of India.
