A claim is doing rounds on the social media platform X(formerly Twitter) alleging a statement by Saudi Arabia that states if Israel attacks Iran, it will be Saudi Arabia’s responsibility to protect the Muslim brother country. Also, Aljazeera has been alleged as the authentic source of this statement.

An account by the name World Affairs shared a collage on X and wrote: “Saudi Arabia says if Iran is attacked by the Israel, it will be our responsibility to protect Muslim brother country”



Moreover, several users shared this collage stating similar claims. The preview link can be seen here and here.

Fact-Check

The DFRAC investigated this claim and found it to be fake.
We conducted a Google keyword search in this regard and found that no reports have been published backing the above viral claim.
For further confirmation, we searched for this claim on the website of Al Jazeera and got no results on the website.

On the contrary, we found the latest report by The National informing that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held talks on recent Middle East developments amid rising tensions between Iran and the US over Tehran’s nuclear programme and the prospect of renewed negotiations.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the viral claim alleging the statement by Saudi Arabia quoting Al Jazeera as its source is completely fake. There are no sources available online in the support of the above claim.
