A viral video shows violent waves engulfing a town. The claimant has shared it with the caption, “Shocking videos of Earthquake in Bangkok.”

Fact Check
To verify the viral video, the DFRAC conducted a reverse-image search of a key frame from the video. This led us to a video uploaded on X on 19 February 2025. This post alerts about volcanic activity in Greece’s Santorini. Even, a news report backs the volcanic activity in Santorini, Greece.
However, after checking this video on the AI-detection tool, Hive Moderation it revealed that this video is AI-generated, with a 99% likelihood.

Whereas, for the Myanmar earthquake, we referred to a news report by The New York Times, dated 29 March 2025, which states about the earthquakes that struck Myanmar. The earthquake struck at 12:50 pm on 28 March 2025 near Sagaing, Myanmar, and was of 7.7 magnitude. The tremors of this earthquake were felt as far as Bangkok in Thailand, 650 miles away.

Moreover, the devastation in Myanmar’s Mandalay and Naypyidaw is now well-reported. A bridge on the Irrawaddy River collapsed and a hospital was inundated with patients in Mandalay.
Additionally, both countries, Myanmar and Thailand, have declared a state of emergency. Over 1,000 people are confirmed dead in Myanmar.
Another news report, by the Independent, dated 28 March 2025, states that a high-rise building under construction in Bangkok, Thailand, collapsed due to strong earthquake tremors.

Conclusion
Hence, the fact-check clearly shows that the video is AI-generated. The news reports clearly state that the area that was struck by the earthquake – Sagaing, Myanmar – is landlocked and is nowhere near the sea.
