Claim
A viral video shows vandalism and arson in a complex of a religious institution. The text in the video suggests that it is from West Bengal and all this is happening against a Hindu Temple. It pleads people to reconsider brotherhood with other religions.

Fact Check
Upon investigation, DFRAC found the claim to be misleading. We did a reverse image search of the keyframe from the video which led us to videos and reports. A Facebook live video showcased the whole vandalism and arson at the Shrine of a Sufi Saint.

After this, we did a keyword search, which directed us to a video on YouTube by DBC News, uploaded on 28 February 2025. The video shows the vandalism and arson at the Sufi saint’s shrine which took place to prevent the Urs planned at the shrine. The video’s title in English says, In Dinajpur, under the banner of Towhidi Janata, vandalism and arson to prevent the Urs at the shrine | DBC NEWS.

A news report on Northeast News, dated 3 March 2025, mentions the torching of the Mazar of Rahim Shah Baba Bhandari in the Ghoraghat area of Dinajpur district.

Subsequently, after knowing about the Sufi saint’s name, we conducted another keyword search: Rahim Shah Baba Bhandari shrine in Ghoraghat. This led us to news reports by Bangladeshi news outlet, Bangla.fm, which reported two reports on the issue. First, on 21 February 2025 about the anticipation surrounding the upcoming Urs of Shrine of Hazrat Gausul Azam Rahim Shah Baba Bhandari Rowza Sharif in Ghoraghat upazila of Dinajpur.

The second report on 28 February 2025, stated about the arson, vandalism, and pillage at the Shrine of the Sufi Saint at Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat.

Conclusion
Hence, the fact check reveals that the video clip isn’t from India’s West Bengal. The video is originally from Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat in Bangladesh. It shows an act of arson and vandalism by a group called Towhidi Janata on the Shrine of a Sufi Saint.
Therefore, the news reports and news video prove that it is from Bangladesh not from West Bengal
