Against the backdrop of Afghanistan’s thrilling performance against England, the Internet was amused by a viral image showing Indian and Afghanistan flags in one banner. Users exclaimed at the relationship between the two countries. In the viral image, two hands with imprints of two countries’ flags are also shown.

Fact-check

Firstly, DFRAC investigation analysed the logo seen in the top right corner of the image. The logo is of ‘ ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup India 2023′. It became clear that the image was from 2023, when India hosted the ICC Men’s World Cup. 

Then, using this hint, the DFRAC team reverse-searched the image. The search fetched similar images shared in 2023.

Conclusion

DFRAC investigation proved that the viral image of the Indian and Afghanistan flags in one banner is from 2023 when India hosted the ICC men’s world cup, not from the 2025 Afghanistan- England match, as claimed by users. Hence, these posts are misleading.
