Amid this, on social media, news from Kashmir has gone viral. While sharing the news, users named ‘Tactical Tribune‘ wrote, “6 Indian soldiers have lost their lives after their vehicle was targeted; the vehicle fell into a gorge near Zedkhusi Nallah, IOK.”
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found the claim to be false. We found multiple media reports regarding the news. According to a Republic World report published on December 15, 2024, “Two Army jawans were injured after an Indian Army vehicle traveling from Bandipora towards Gurez skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge. The injured jawans were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where their condition is claimed to be stable.”
Furthermore, we also found a report from Kashmir Convener published on December 15, 2024, which states, “An Army vehicle traveling from Bandipora towards Gurez met with an accident near Zedkhusi Nallah on Sunday, leaving two Army soldiers injured. An official told the news agency JKNS that at least two Army soldiers were injured after the vehicle they were traveling in reportedly skidded off the road and rolled down approximately 50 feet into a gorge.”
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact check that the claim shared on social media is false. There was no report of six soldiers losing their lives, and the incident involved only two injured soldiers, not fatalities. Therefore, the claim made by social media users is misleading.
