On social media, video of burning ship has gone viral. While sharing the video users claim “BREAKING: Hezbollah has officially started striking the Israeli port of Haifa for the first time.”
Moreover, several users shared this video and made similar claims. The link can be seen here, here and here
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found that the claim was false. We found multiple media reports carrying similar image. According to ‘safety4sea’ published on 11 June, 2024 “According to news, on 10th June a fire erupted on a Turkish-owned cargo ship, Yaf Horizon, while it was docked at the port of Haifa, leading to a significant emergency response.”
Furthermore, we also found a report from ‘marineinsight’ published on 12 June, 2024 stating “A Turkish-owned cargo ship named Yaf Horizon caught fire while it was docked at the Israeli Port of Haifa on June 10, 2024. The vessel arrived from Russia carrying iron or steel cargo and was stationed at Israel Shipyards in Haifa’s Kishon area when the fire broke out.”
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video shows a fire which broke in the engine room of a Turkish owned ship, and has no links to recent Hezbollah-Israel clash. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
