The deadly Israel-Lebanon attacks have sparked a wave of misinformation on the internet. Several photos and videos are making rounds on the social media platforms predating recent attacks. Amid this, a video showing a massive gas explosion have recently surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) with the claim that multiple rockets have directly hit military targets in central occupied Palestine.

Fact-check

Using keyframes from the generated above-shared video, the DFRAC team found a similar video on YouTube dated Aug 31, 2024 with the caption: “Deadly gas station explosion rocks Aden, Yemen”.

According to the video’s description, Loud explosions shook Aden, Yemen, overnight, with a major blast occurring at a gas station in the southern city. The explosion ignited a large fire. The cause of the blast remains unknown.

In addition, we found that the incident has been covered by Andolu Ajansi & Mehr news agency. As per reports, an explosion at a gas station in Aden Governorate, southern Yemen, resulted in multiple casualties, according to local sources. The explosion occurred on Al-Taseen Street in the Mansoura district, following a fire at the gas station.

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the above-shared is unrelated to the Israel-Lebanon conflict. Originally, it is from Aug 2024 showing the explosion incident at a gas station in Yemen.
