On September 20, 2024, Abhishek Agarwal posted a video on X, claiming that the situation at Charminar in Hyderabad was chaotic, suggesting that the Congress government was failing to protect the Bhagyalakshmi Temple amid violence during the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi rally. While sharing the video, the user wrote,” Are they trying to invade Bhagyalakshmi Temple? Their long-standing attempt to uproot this sacred site is evident. The situation at #Charminar in #Hyderabad is going out of control.
The Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi rally has turned violent—Namazis are pushing the police and smashing barricades.”
Other users can be seen making similar kind of claims.
Fact Check
DFRAC conducted a reverse google search and we found that the video referenced shows police managing a fire caused by a DJ’s generator during the procession on September 19, not an attack on the temple.
We found media reports in reference to theincident. According to Deccan Chronicle,”A fire broke out near Charminar during a Milad-un-Nabi procession organised by the India Sunni United Forum on Thursday night. No casualties were reported as the police and fire services personnel reached the spot on time. The fire reportedly erupted as a result of sparks of the bursting fire crackers landing on the generator. However, the police and the fire brigade came to the rescue.”
Another report media by Siasat Daily, dated September, 20 also mentioned that the area was barricaded and entry was not permitted until the fire was put out. No casualties were reported.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand also stated that both festivals concluded peacefully with no clashes reported.
Additionally. we checked for the Official youtube channel of Shri Bhagyalaxmi Mandir Charminar. There we founda avideo posted on 20 th september, where no attack, violence or fire can be seen around the temple premises.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact check that the claim exaggerates the situation and misrepresents the events. The Bhagyalakshmi Temple remains safe, and the rally concluded without violence affecting the site.
