Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found this video was not from India but from Guatemala. We found multiple media reports regarding this video. According to ‘prensalibre’ published on 12 Sep “The Villa Nueva Volunteer Firefighters reported an incident on National Route CA-9 to the Pacific heading south, where a type of vent formed in the asphalt because, according to local authorities, under that point there is a quinel whose capacity was exceeded. due to the water flows produced by the intense rains this Thursday, September 12”.
Moreover, we also found a report from ‘Lahora.gt’ stating “The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) confirmed the existence of a “crack” in the asphalt at kilometer 14 of the CA-9, route to the Pacific, in the jurisdiction of Villa Nueva”.
Furthermore, we also found a similar video on Facebook page of <a href="https://www.facebook.com/people/Sin-Censura-Izabal/100066739116534/?__tn__=Sin Censura Izabal from Puerto Barrios, Guatemala uploaded on 12 Sep with caption “Road to the Pacific about to collapse take precautions” (Translated from Spanish).
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video is not from India but from Guatemala, Central America. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
