False claim of killings of Civilian in Kashmir by Indian Forces

Jammu & Kashmir’s assembly elections are around the corner. Surrounding the election season, Pakistani media outlets have shared a report where they have claimed the killings of 7 civilians in kashmir by Indian forces. The consistent Fake News peddler media agency of Pakistan, Kashmir Meda Service, shared the similar claim along with Radio Pakistan.

Following these reports, Pakistani social media users have also shared similar reports with the claim “Indian forces martyred 7 #Kashmiri civilians in August 2024”.

Fact Check

DFRAC team investigated the viral claim. On investigation, we found the claim to be false. We checked the J&K news reports from August 2024. We found that there were multiple altercations between terrorists and security personnel reported during that month. On Aug 11, 2024, during a terrorist encounter, 1 civilian lost his life in crossfire.

Besides this 1 civilian, no other civilian deaths by Indian forces have been reported. However, there were multiple encounters and terrorist attacks during August 2024 where Indian security personnel were martyred and terrorists were killed in J&K.

Conclusion

Thus from the fact-check it is clear, that a Fake narrative of Killing of Civilians by the Indian Forces in J&K has been shared by Pak media and amplified by Pak social media users.

The viral claim is false.
