Palestine is expected to submit its application to join the BRICS, a group of emerging economies, after its upcoming summit in October in the city of Kazan, southwestern Russia. In its aftermath, misinformation has begun to proliferate on social media platforms. One such claim alleging that India asked BRICS to not include Palestine in BRICS but Russia and China rejected India’s stance is making rounds on social media platform X(formerly Twitter).
An account with the username @drrpalestine posted a collage of PM Modi with Tricolor Flag X and wrote: “INDIA asked BRICS to not include Palestine in BRICS but Russia and China rejected India’s stance One Word for India”

Fact-Check
The DFRAC investigated this claim by searching some Keywords on google in this regard that led us to multiple reports from published in June 2024. As per reports, India has given its stamp of approval to a joint statement by BRICS foreign ministers that is critical of Israel’s actions in Gaza and its disregard for international law.
Moreover, we discovered some latest reports by TASS, Russian News Agency and Andolu Ajansi revealing that Palestine would submit an application for joining BRICS after the October summit in Kazan, where one of the sessions is expected to be devoted to the situation in Gaza, Palestinian ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal has told a news conference.
