Statement of Sajeeb Wazed over Hasina's Exit Misconstrued. Read the Facts

After Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and sudden exit, a statement has recently surfaced on social media platform X that reads: “Bangladeshi nation is ungrateful. Hasina Wajid would never return to Bangladesh. Country is now on its own. We are done with it.” The statement has been shared by many users who are claiming that the statement has been given by Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed.

An account with username @SouthAsiaIndex, known for sharing misinformation, took to X and wrote: “Dhaka:— Son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina Wajid says: “Bangladeshi nation is ungrateful. Hasina Wajid would never return to Bangladesh. Country is now on its own. We are done with it.”

Source: X

Moreover, several users shared this statement on X and made similar a claim. The link can be seen here and here

Fact-Check

To determine the reality of the viral claim, the DFRAC team conducted a keyword search in this regard and found latest reports from Deccan Herald and Bloomberg. The reports stated: “she said she will never go back to Bangladesh, Sajeeb Wazed, Hasina’s son and an adviser in her ousted government, said in a phone interview from Washington. In fact, to be entirely candid, she told me that none of our family will ever go back to Bangladesh”

Notably, “Bangladeshi nation is ungrateful”and  “Country is now on its own. We are done with it” have not appeared in any media report so far.

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the statement given by Hasina’s son over her resignation and sudden exit has been misconstrued on X. He  addressed the issue of not returning to Bangladesh indeed.
