On social media, a video showing a surgery being performed using a surgical robot is going viral. While sharing the video, a user compared India and China based on medical progress. The user lauded the efforts of China’s surgical robotic technology while denouncing India for using Cow dung and Cow urine to treat patients.
Fact Check
On investigation, DFRAC found a report from The Indian Express published on 6 December 2018 stating “Cardiac surgeon Dr Tejas Patel performed what doctors claimed to be the “world’s first ever in-human telerobotic coronary intervention procedure” here on Wednesday. The procedure took barely 20 minutes at the Apex Heart Institute with Dr Patel supervising it from the Akshardham Swaminarayan Temple in Gandhinagar, at a distance of 32 km”.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the claim made by the user is completely false since the world’s first ever in-human telerobotic coronary intervention procedure was performed by Cardiac surgeon Dr Tejas Patel in 2018 in India.
