An image showing two Karate players holding a Palestinian flag has recently emerged on @X. The image has been shared by several users on social media platform X with the claim that two egyptian black belts raise the Palestinian flag after defeating a Zionist.
Taking to X, an account with the username @stairwayto3dom posted this image and wrote: “2 EGYPTIAN black belts raise the PALESTINIAN flag after defeating a ZIONIST”
The post racked up around 1 million views on X.
In addition to this, many users shared this image and made similar claims.
Fact-Check
We reverse-searched this image using Google lens and found that the image was from 2022. Reports from Egypt Independent and Palestine Chronicle published in Nov 2022, featured the same image and mentioned that two players of U-15 Egyptian youth team raised Palestinian Flag after winning first and second position, outperforming an Israeli player who came in Third place in the World ITKF Traditional Karate Championship, held in Slovenia.
However, the 2024 World Karate Championship has yet to be taken place. As per given info. on the website of ITKF, it will be held on 6-9 November 2024, in Lima, Peru.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s factcheck that the viral image dates back to the 2022 World ITKF Karate Championship, Slovenia, not from the 2024 Karate Championship.
