Recently clashes occurred between the Kashmiri local and the police forces in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. In relation to this incident, a claim has been shared stating, “5 police officers, including a DYSP, were injured after they tried to disrupt a freedom protest in Kathua, J&K. Indian forces threatened locals with demolition of their homes”.
Fact Check
We conducted a Key word search in Google in relation the claim. During the process we found media reports published on 292 June 2024. According to media report by The week and Daily Exelsior, it informed that Police were attacked by a mob protesting against an anti-encroachment drive in J&K’s Kathua district where a drive was launched in the Nagri area of Hiranagar to demolish an illegal place of worship that was resisted by a group of locals
They turned violent & attacked the police, injuring 5 personnel, including a deputy superintendent. Furthermore, reports informed that reinforcements have been rushed to the area to restore law and order, the officials said.
Conclusion
Thus, no Freedom protest in Kashmir took place nor threats of demolition of homes by Indian Police forces were given to locals. It was an anti-enchroachment drive that led to clashes.
Hence, the claim by Pak user is misleading.
