A video showing some people gathered around a building engulfed in fire went viral on social media platforms. Several Bangladeshi handles shared this video & claimed that Israeli & Indian embassies were set ablaze by an angry crowd in Istanbul.

A Bangladeshi handle with the username @FaryalBD, notable for sharing misinformation on X, shared this video and wrote: “An angry crowd set fire to the Israeli and Indian embassies in Istanbul, Turkey” (Translated from Bengali)

Apart from this,  numerous Bangladeshi handles shared this video on X and facebook with similar captions.

Fact-Check

A reverse-image search of the keyframes generated from the viral video led us to a tweet on the X handle of Quds News Network where we found the similar video that was posted in October 2023. The video’s caption read: “Angry protesters set fire to the Israeli occupation’s consulate in Istanbul to denounce the Baptist Hospital massacre last night in Gaza, which resulted in the murder of nearly a thousand Palestinian civilians.

Following this, a report by AhlulBayt News Agency from October 2023 featured the same video & cited that angry protestors set fire Israeli occupation consulate in Istanbul to denounce Baptist Hospital massacre in Gaza.

Conclusion 

It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the viral video shared by Bangladeshi handles is misleading. Originally, as the video dates back to 2023 & the Indian embassy has not been set ablaze by the Protestors.

Hence, the claim made by Bangladeshi handles is false.
