On the social media platform, X a picture of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi holding a red colored constitution in his hands is being shared. The picture is raising questions and casting doubts about whether Rahul Gandhi has the Chinese constitution in his hands.
On May 17, the Chief Minister of Assam, Hemant Biswa Sarma, shared a post writing, -“The original copy of the Indian Constitution has a blue cover whereas the cover of Chinese Constitution is blue. Does Rahul Gandhi have the Constitution of China? We need to verify and substantiate.”
Replying to his tweet on May 18, Hemant Biswa Sarma wrote, “Rahul Gandhi is flaunting and displaying the red colored Chinese Constitution to the people present in his rallies. In our blue-colored Indian Constitution, there is a segment called the Directive Principles Policy, which makes it our holy and sacred duty to implement a Uniform Civil Code in our country: Rahul Gandhi is now opposing it. So I am inclined to believe that the constitution he is holding must be the Chinese one.”
Fact Check
When the DFRAC team investigated and looked into the viral claim, we found that it was the red coat pocket edition of the Indian constitution sold by the publishing company with the name ‘Eastern Book’.
Apart from this, a copy of red-colored Indian constitution can also be purchased from the Mylawbooks Store.
On the other hand, India’s online Legal database SCC Online had posted a photo on October 23, 2023, showing the Home Minister, Amit Shah receiving a red-colored copy of the constitution, along with Mr. Sumain Malik and Mr, Sumit Malik, presenting a copy of the Red Coat Pocketed Constitution to the honourable Home Minister of India, Shri Amit Shah.
Conclusion
Henceforth, DFRAC’s fact check clearly shows that the photo of Rahul Gandhi with a red colored copy of the Constitution has been shared with a misleading claim. The red colored copy of the Constitution of India is available on the EBC store and is published by the publisher Eastern Book Company.
