The assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has sent shock waves across Europe. However, the Prime Minister is in a serious but stable condition now. Meanwhile, Slovakian media outlets have identified his assailant as 71-year-old Juraj Cintula, who is a writer and has worked as a security Guard earlier. Amid all this, we came across one such claim on X(formerly Twitter) stating that the wife of the shooter of the Slovak Prime Minister is a Ukrainian refugee and has been detained.
An account with the name Megatron posted a video with the Image of Slovkian PM and wrote: ”The wife of the shooter of the Slovak Prime Minister is an Ukrainian refugee and has been detained”

Moreover, other users also made this claim by stating similar facts.

Fact-Check
The DFRAC team searched some keywords on google related to the above viral claim. We found a report by Dailymail.co.uk dated May 16, 2024 mentioning that Cintula’s wife has since been placed under protection for fear that Fico’s enraged supporters would seek retribution.

In addition to that, we found a recently published report from Newsweek According to this report, Slovakia’s interior minister, Matúš Šutaj Eštok, told reporters that Cintula was a critic of Fico’s policies, he was oriented towards Russia and that he sympathized with the opposition in his country.
