A claim has recently surfaced on the social media site X(Twitter) stating that at least 6 Indian SOG commandos have been gunned down by Kashmiri fighters in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking to X(Twitter), an account with the username @NavCom24 which has been found spreading falsehoods frequently, wrote: “At least 06 Indian SOG commandos have been gunned down by Kashmiri fighters in Kulgam district, occupied Kashmir. Unfortunately, Indian forces have surrounded them from all sides. But still, those 3 to 5 fighters have pinned down a force of 600 Indian troops”
Additionally, many users made this claim mentioning similar facts.
Fact-Check
The DFRAC searched some keywords on Google related to the above viral claim. Meanwhile, we found a tweet on the X(Twitter) handle of Kashmir Police stating that the bodies of 2 terrorists killed in the anti-terrorist operation recovered so far. This tweet is a follow-up of another tweet done on May 6 by Kashmir Police mentioning that an encounter had started.
Moreover, according to Livemint’s report, two terrorists were killed after an encounter broke out between the security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam on May 7 Tuesday. “The identity and group affiliation of the slain ultras can be revealed only after the bodies are retrieved,” an official said.
Apart from this, reports from the Times of India and NDTV also reported this news with similar facts.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check thatthe claim stating that 6 Indian SOG commandos were killed in Kulgam, is false. In reality, 2 terrorists have been reported dead.
