A distressing video has gone viral on social media site X(Twitter) showing a man shooting a cow in the head twice. The video has triggered a heavy backlash on social media. Sharing this video on X, several users are associating it with Congress and alleging that a cow has been sacrificed for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Additionally, it has also been claimed that the man’s name is Mohammad Mujahid Islam and he is the media in-charge of Kerala Congress.

An account with the username @Modified_Hindu9 shared this video on X and wrote: “Congress party has crossed all limits of hatred towards Hindus. The name of this beast is Mohammad Mujahid Islam and he is the media in-charge of Kerala Congress. The height of hatred for Hindus is such that he sacrificed a cow by shooting it for Rahul Gandhi’s victory. What kind of height of brutality is this?”

Furthermore, the video has been shared by numerous users on X with similar claims.

Fact-Check

The DFRAC team investigated the viral video by converting it into some Keyframes and reverse-searched them on Google. We came across a Free Press Journal’s report citing thata Manipur man was seen shooting a cow in the head twice as an onlooker recorded the act on a mobile camera. The video of the incident is currently going viral on social media with people demanding authority to act against the man and hold him accountable for his brazen act and animal cruelty. 

Apart from this, the report informed that a user named Sunanda Roy shared this video and tagged @HMOIndia and @PetaIndia where the handle of PETA India responded with a tweet citing that the team is working with Manipur Police’s Cyber Crime Cell to confirm the details and has the necessary action taken.

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral video is not associated with Congress and Rahul Gandhi’s victory. The viral video is from Manipur indeed.

Hence, the claims of social media users are false.
