Amid Lok Sabha Elections 2024, an image of a colossal bridge showing vehicles running over it is making rounds on social media site X(formerly Twitter). Users have fervently shared this image and claimed that this bridge is not from the USA or China but from Mumbai, India.
Sharing this Image on X, an account with the username @Modified_Hindu9 wrote: “This is not America or China, this is Mumbai’s highway, just look at it come for a stroll. This is how it will cross 400 Mumbai, India” (Translated from Hindi)
In addition to that, several users have shared this image on X and made similar claims.
Fact-Check
Initiating our Investigation, we reverse-searched this image on Google and found a video on the website Vidopedia featuring a similar viral image with the caption in Persian: “!Construction of road and highway in the middle of the sea in China“. The viral image can be seen at the beginning of the video.
Upon further investigation, we came across another video on Facebook that carries a similar image with a title in Chinese: “Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in Qingdao, China, was selected as one of best bridges in the world by Forbes Magazine”. At the time stamp of 0:06 seconds, the video shows a similar viral bridge which has been shared on X claiming it to be from Mumbai.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the viral image of the Colossal Bridge has been misleadingly shared claiming it was from Mumbai, India. The image has been originated from China indeed and shows the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in Qingdao, China.
