A screenshot of a Hindi newspaper is circulating on social media, alleging that a supporter of PM Narendra Modi has resigned from their overseas job and returned to India to cast their vote for him in the Lok Sabha elections.
While sharing the screenshot, a user named Vini__007 wrote, “Those who are not going to cast a single vote at the booth despite living in India, they should learn from this message, we are not reaching the booth from home and he leaves the job from Australia just because of Modi. You Know why because he knows the values of Modiji which the people here cannot recognize.”
Furthermore, the same claim has been made by a YouTube account named “Maharaj current ” by sharing a video on its channel.
Fact-Check
DFRAC conducted a keyword search on Google regarding the viral news and discovered a report by ABP Asmita dated April 14, 2019. According to the report, Sudhindra Hebbar, an MBA graduate from Karnataka, was employed as a screening officer at Sydney Airport in Australia. He resigned from his position after being denied leave to vote in India, despite being a supporter of Prime Minister Modi.
Sudhindra had been granted leave from April 5th to 12th, but required additional time to cast his vote, which was not granted, leading to his decision to resign. Interestingly, Sudhindra had also come to India in April 2014 during the Lok Sabha elections and returned to Sydney after exercising his voting rights.
Moreover, we found a video uploaded on NMF News YouTube channel on April 15, 2019 related to the viral claim. The same information was given in the video of NMF News.
Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact-check reveals that the viral news clip was shared with a misleading claim, falsely attributing it to the Lok Sabha elections of 2024. The truth is that Sudhindra resigned from his job and returned to India to participate in the Lok Sabha elections of 2019.
