An image is going viral on X (formerly Twitter) showing a screenshot of an update from Google in regards to Gmail. It says Gmail will officially be sunsetted, marking its end on 1st August 2024.

Upon investigating, however, via reverse image search and searching for Gmail updates, DFRAC found that Google is not shutting down Gmail. However, its classic version is being discontinued. A clarification has been provided that Gmail discontinued its HTML-only version in January 2024.

This version enabled users to access their emails in areas with limited network connectivity. However, the standard @gmail service will remain unaffected and continue to operate as usual.

Therefore, it is confirmed by DFRAC that Gmail is not sunsetting, contrary to the viral claims and thus is misleading.
