A video is going viral on the social media Platform X (Twitter) showing some people pelting stones at each other. Several users on X are sharing this video and claiming it is a recent one.

Sharing this video on X, a user by the name of @iamharunkhan wrote: “Stones were pelted at Sikhs from a temple, to which the Sikhs also responded”.

In addition, other users also shared this video and made similar claims.

Fact-Check

The DFRAC team fact-checked the above viral video. We found that the video is from a clash incident that broke out between two groups in Punjab’s Patiala during a protest. Moreover, it took place in 2022. Many media outlets such as Republic World, The Quint and Mirror Now have reported this incident.

Furthermore, we also discovered a media report by The Wire published on 29 April 2022. As per the media report, a clash broke out between two groups in Patiala on Friday, April 29, and police had to fire in the air to bring the situation under control. A few people were injured in the incident, which reportedly saw stone pelting. Videos circulating on social media show crowds chanting.

It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-check that the viral video shows the incident that took place in 2022, not a recent one.
