Since October 7, there has been conflict going on between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and a lot of false information is being spread on social media. We came across a video going viral on social media in which we can see the police attacking a mosque. It is being shared by users with the claim that Israeli forces stormed a Palestinian prayer hall blocked Muslims and burned it down when they failed. They proceeded to arrest the worshippers inside.

An X user named @jacksonhinklle shared the video and wrote “ISRAELI forces stormed a Palestinian prayer hall with civilians inside, just after prayer took place. They tried to block the Muslims in the Mosque and burn it down when that failed. They proceeded to arrest the worshippers inside”.

Fact Check

To know the truth behind the viral video, the DFRAC team converted the video into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. We found some media reports by Al Jazeera and CNN which covered the same news. The same video was uploaded on both websites on  April 5 and 6,2023 stating “Israeli police storm al-Aqsa mosque for the second time on Wednesday”.

Moreover, we also found the same video was uploaded on X by many users on April, 5 2023.

Conclusion

Therefore, it is clear from the DFRAC’s fact-check that this is an old video from April 2023 which is getting shared by social media users misleadingly.
