Election season is around the corner in India where 5 states including Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, will hold elections. Madhya Pradesh will hold Legislative Assembly elections on November 17, 2023. False information is being disseminated on social media during this time. One such claim is going viral that Kamal Nath in his speech said the Ladli Behna scheme will be stopped as soon as our government comes.
A Facebook user ‘Mera Madhya Pradesh’ shared a video of Kamal Nath in which he is saying ,”he will stop the Ladli Behna scheme as soon as our government comes” and its caption reads “Kalanknath said on the stage – Ladli Behna scheme will be stopped as soon as our government comes”.
The same video was also uploaded on the YouTube shorts section as well
Fact Check
To know the truth behind the viral video, the DFRAC team covert the video into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. We came across the official account of MP Congress (@INCMP) on X, where the same video was uploaded by a Facebook user. Throughout the entire video, Kamal Nath does not make any such statements.
The audio has been altered, but the video’s keyframes remain the same. The comparison has been shown below.
Media Reports
Furthermore, we found a media report by the PTI in which it was stated, “A complaint has been filed by Rakesh Singh Yadava who is MP Congress secretary against an unidentified person for circulating fake videos on social media”. According to PTI, The case has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 469 (forgery with intent to harm reputation), section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) 505 (2) (statements conducing public mischief) against the owner of a mobile number, a police official said
.
Taking the instance of PTI, other media houses also published the same news.
Conclusion
Therefore, it is clear from the DFRAC’s fact check that the claim is misleading. The audio in the video has been altered. A complaint has also been filed against the person spreading the fake video.
