The recent news of Ujjain Rape case of a teenage girl in Madhya Pradesh has shaken the entire country. According to media reports, the minor girl was roaming around partially clothed, but no one came forward to help her. Meanwhile, the accused in this incident, Bharat Soni, has been arrested by the police.

What claim is going viral?

News is going viral on social media that the police have killed the accused Bharat Soni in an encounter. Many social media users claim that the accused was trying to escape, but the police encountered and killed him.

An account named Sumit Thakkar wrote in a post, “The heinous criminal from Ujjain was killed in a gunfight. Shivraj walks on the path of Modi and Yogi. Well done @ChouhanShivraj.”

The DFRAC team conducted an investigation into the claims of the accused Bharat Soni being killed in an encounter in the Ujjain rape case. Our team conducted a keyword search on Google regarding the Ujjain encounter and found several statements from Ujjain police and media reports that provided detailed information about the encounter.

So, was the accused in the Ujjain rape case killed?

In our investigation, we found a press release and a statement from the police regarding this incident through the Twitter ID of Ujjain SP (@ujjain_sp).

According to this press release, when the police reached the crime scene with the accused Bharat Soni, he attempted to escape by pushing the police officers. During this attempt, he pelted stones at the police, injuring two officers. The accused himself also fell into a pit and got injured.

What is the coverage of the Ujjain rape case in the media?

According to a report by ‘Zee News’, the coverage of the incident in the media is as follows: The accused of the Ujjain rape case attempted to escape during police custody, as per the report. After which, he was injured in a police encounter.

The report states that based on the statement of Inspector Ajay Kumar, it is mentioned that the accused, Bharat Soni, tried to flee. The police officers chased him and apprehended him. During this, he fell down and injured his hands and feet.
