A video is being widely shared on social media. In this video, it can be seen that some girls of African origin are beating another girl after a dispute. Users who are sharing this video claim that the Indian girl was severely beaten up by girls of African origin for making racial remarks.
Many users, including @ajaychauhan41 and @AsianDigest, shared posts with this video claiming that the viral video is from the Netherlands.
Moreover, a website named ‘The Free Press Journal’ has also published the news in the context of this incident. According to reports, an Indian girl was severely beaten by a group of African women in the Netherlands over an alleged racist remark. However, it is unclear what caused the fight.
Fact-Check
To verify the claims of the above viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. Our investigation revealed that the video is not from the Netherlands but from the city of Beveren in Belgium. The incident took place in the month of Oct last year & related to a fight that broke out between two groups of girl students.
According to news published on 5 Oct 2022 on the website of HLN News, it was a fight between the girls of Antwerp and Beveren. After this incident, 7 girls were arrested and 2 most violent girls were sent to “youth court”.
Conclusion
DFRAC’s Fact-Check clears that the viral video dates back to October 2022 & is from Belgium, rather Netherlands. The claim stating that African-origin girls thrashed the Indian woman is also false.
