After the case of a UP teacher urging the students to slap a Muslim Kid, a video of Bangladesh, showing a minor brutally thrashed inside a Madarsa, has been shared online on social media platforms, as it belongs to India’s UP. Social media users are associating the viral video with the case of a Muslim boy slapped in UP.
The case of a Muslim boy slapped by his classmates on the instructions of their class teacher has been hitting the headlines these days after a viral video, purportedly showed her making students slap a Muslim boy inside the classroom. Furthermore, the teacher has been found defending her action by saying: “I am handicapped so I made some students slap him so that he would start doing his homework. His uncle was the one who asked me to do so.”
Sweta Srivastava, who claims herself a social worker posted a video on Twitter and wrote: ” Does this Muslim kid deserve an education in Madarsa? Mohabbat ki dukaan please some Paigam to maulana.”
Re-quoting this video, a user named Abhishek Kumar Kushwaha says: “He wanted to ask, “Tripta Tyagi” did wrong, but if Maulvi is beaten, it will work, won’t it?”
Moreover, several users shared this video making similar claims.
To verify the authenticity of the viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. The team found some news articles during this process.
According to a news article published by Dhaka Tribune on March 10, 2021, “ A madrasa teacher accused of torturing an eight-year-old residential student, after a video of the incident went viral on social media, has been arrested from Chittagong’s Hathazari area. Md Yahya, a teacher at Al Markazul Quran Islamic Academy, was arrested on Wednesday”.
In addition to that, the News Website, The Business Standard of Bangladesh, also published this news mentioning: “Police have arrested a madrasa teacher after a video of him viciously beating up an eight-year-old student over a trifling matter at a madrassa in Chittagong’s Hathazari went viral. The teacher named Mawlana Yahia was arrested from form his home at Sarafvata in Rangunia on Wednesday evening”.
As per the above news articles, the incident took place two years ago.
DFRAC’s Fact-Check proves that the viral video does not belong to UP but rather belongs to Bangladesh’s Chattogram. Hence, the claim of social media users is false.
