A video is getting viral on social media. The video shows how a Catholic church is fiercely burnt into ashes. Users on social media are claiming that the 300-year-old church is set ablaze by BJP extremists in Manipur. Not only this, but the video has also received substantial attention on the Internet.
Manipur has been boiling since May 3 when a Tribal Solidarity March was organized in hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
Parody account of Satyapal Malik, Ex-Governor of Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, and Goa posted a video on Twitter and wrote:#Manipur Sugnu Imphal, Violence arson is not stopping, Pro-BJP militants destroyed the more than 300-year-old St. Joseph’s Church lit, Manipur is burning since 74 days”.
The video has received approximately 24.7K views so far.
A user by the name of Never Mind also posted the same video on Twitter and wrote: “Violence arson is not stopping Pro-BJP extremists destroyed more than 300-year-old St. Joseph’s Church lit Manipur is burning since 73 days and PM is roaming abroad, I have never seen such a shameless and shameless PM”.
Fact-Check
To verify the claim of the viral video, the Dfrac team converted the viral video into some keyframes and then reverse-searched it on Google. We found the same video posted on a YouTube channel named HR 24*7 with the title: “16th century Catholic Church The steeple of Eglise Notre Dame Drosnay has been burnt to the ground”.
In addition to that, the News website Hindustan Times published news with the headline: “France Erupts Again; Ancient Church Burnt Into Ashes; Paris Police Ban Protests After New Violence”. In this news, Hindustan Times revealed: “A 16th-century church was allegedly attacked in North-Eastern France. The massive fire turned the ancient church in Drosnay into ashes. Cops fear that this could be an act by those protesting against teen’s killing”.
Conclusion
Dfrac’s Fact-Check proves that the viral video, claiming the catholic church burnt down amid Manipur riots is fake since the viral video is associated with the news of a 16th-century catholic church which has been burnt into ashes amid violent protests in France.
