In the aftermath of cyclone Biparjoy, hundreds of villages in the Gujarat’s Kutch-Saurasatra region, hundreds of villages left without power as thousands of tress uprooted in the eight affected districts.
A video showing a tornado emerging from the dark, cloudy sky and forming over a sea surface is going viral on social media to claim that this shows cyclone Biparjoy hitting the Gujarat’s coast.
A user named Arun Gangwar shared the video and writes, “The visuals of #BiparjoyCyclone making a splash #LANDFALL in a port area, Kutch, Gujarat #BiparjoyUpdate #BiparjoyNews #Gujaratcyclone #cyclone #cyclone.”
Many other users too shared the simmilar video with simmilar claims.
Fact Check:
We divided the viral video into key frames and reverse-searched the image on Google and found the same video posted by ‘orphicframer‘ on Instagram.
This video was shared on 7 June 2019 with the caption read, “#cgi #vfx #visualeffects #digitalart #photoshop”
This suggests that the video was created through different editing effects.
Conclusion:
Through DFRAC’s investigation it is clear that the video was not of Biparjoy cyclone, but a video created with cgi , vfx effects. Also, the video is not of recent times , but some years old. Hence, the claim by social media users is misleading.
