Fact Check: Media Runs False CCTV Footage of ‘Guddu Muslim’

Several media channels have been circulating an exclusive video claiming it to be of ‘Guddu Muslim.’ The media claimed that the final location of ‘Guddu Muslim’ was in Odisha, and that the footage was the latest image of him. India TV, ABP News, Navbharat Times, News-18 UP Uttarakhand, and many more channels reported on this.

Fact Check :

DFRAC verification of the CCTV footage  shows that it being circulated by the media  and is wasn’t of ‘Guddu Muslim,’ but of Sheik Hamid Mohammad. The team found a video by a YouTube channel called ‘Odisha Reporter’ in which Sheik Hamid Mohammad identifies himself as the person in the CCTV footage, and not ‘Guddu Muslim.’

Journalist Gaurav Singh Sengar also tweeted two videos, one being a byte in which Sheik Hamid Mohammad denies being ‘Guddu Muslim,’ and the other video showing the same person as in the viral footage.

Conclusion:

It’s clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the viral video isn’t of ‘Guddu Muslim’ but of Sheik Hamid Mohammad. Therefore, the media’s coverage of the CCTV footage in the context of ‘Guddu Muslim’ is incorrect and misleading.
