On 4th March 2023, a verified Twitter account run by the name of ‘Rishi Bagree’, who has a following of almost 300k, posted the following tweet:

The tweet quotes an article with the headline ‘Cambridge slips to lowest-ever place in world university table’ and writes ‘Is this a coincidence’. In the replies to this tweet, the commenters are seen associating the headline with Rahul Gandhi’s recent event at the university.

Rahul Gandhi was invited to give a speech at the University of Cambridge’s Judge Business School on the subject of ‘Learning to Listen in the 21st Century’. The speech stirred up some controversies wherein he was accused of ‘crying wolf at the foreign shores’ and maligning the image of India at an international platform.

Fact Check:

After doing a reverse search image of the article linked, it was revealed that it was actually from 2019 when Cambridge had slipped to its lowest position of seventh rank.

In 2023 however, the university seems to be thriving at a second position in the field of global academics, as reported by several news outlets such as The Indian Express, Forbes and The Independent.

Conclusion:

The implications of this tweet are misleading and further propagated by the use of an old article which bears no relevance to Rahul Gandhi’s speech.
