A video is getting viral on social media. In this video, some people can be seen being beaten. Social media users who shared this video are claiming that people of the Muslim community attacked the Kali temple located in Neelambazar in the Karimganj district of Assam.
Sharing this video, a verified user named Ambuj Bhardwaj captioned: “ Muslim Jihadis attacked a Kali Mandir situated at Nilambazar under South Karimganj LAC of Karimganj Dist of Assam. Tension continues in the area.”
Meanwhile, many other social media users shared the same video with a similar claim.
To fact-check the viral video, the DFRAC team searched some keywords on Google. We found several media reports in this regard. https://www.pratidintime.com published a report with the headline – “Clash Breaks Out in Karimganj Over Tube Well Installation”.
The report said that there was a dispute over the installation of tube wells between two groups in Karimganj. This installation was being done on the way to the temple in the Neelambazar area of Karimganj.
Karimganj Superintendent of Police Padmanabha Barua said in this report, “There was a clash between two parties over the installation of a tube well. However, our team has brought the situation under control. There were no human injuries, but we picked up one person who was involved in installing the tubewell in that area. No FIR has been registered in the case so far.”
At the same time, the barakbulletin.com report has also stated the reason for the dispute to install tubewells. The report can be read here.
Several media reports said that the reason for the dispute was to install a tubewell on the way to the temple, after which there was a fight between the two parties. Therefore, the claim that Muslims attacked the Kali temple is false.
