In a video that is getting viral on social media, some Hindi slogans can be heard which when translated into English is urging the government and UT’s administration to be in their senses. Along with this, there is a huge crowd that is marching on the roads and reciting the slogans.
A user on Twitter posted the video and claimed that the people of Ladakh are protesting to have their Independence from India and tweeted, “Huge Protests in Ladakh, demanding Independence from oppressive in India @majorgauravarya.”
Source: Twitter
Fact Check:
To investigate the video, the DFRAC team did a keyword search and found a video posted by the NDTV news channel 3 months ago with the description that states, “Protest marches were taken out in Leh today, demanding statehood and recognition under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution for the region that was carved out as a separate Union Territory in August 2019 after the abrogation of Article 370.
Times Now too posted a video on the same with similar demand of having Sixth Sechudule of the constitution.
Conclusion:
Hence, it is clear from the video that the protest is not for Independence, but for demanding statehood and recognition under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution for the region that was carved out as a separate Union Territory in August 2019 after the abrogation of Article 370. That is why the claim made by @Samavia196 is misleading.
