After the fabulous victory of Argentina in the FIFA World cup 2022, legendary football player and Argentinian captain, Lionel Messi maintains to remain in the limelight every other day. Meanwhile, a claim is going massively viral on social media sites that the government of Argentina is considering putting the picture of Messi on the official currency notes of the country.
Meanwhile, sharing notes of 1000 Argentinian pesos featuring Messi, a social media user Sam lankoi wrote, “Argentina is considering putting Leo Messi on their banknotes.”
Similarly, many other media houses and social media handles have shared this claim.
Fact Check:
The DFRAC team did thorough research on the viral claim but we found no such official news from the Argentinian government. Moreover, we found an article published in Bloomberg Linea published on December 2022.
The article mentioned that the Central bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) has ruled out such a possibility.
Furthermore, when we checked the official website of BCRA, no such news. Also, the note of 1000 pesos featuring Messi is nowhere in any of the official sources.
Conclusion:
The viral picture of 1000 Argentinian pesos featuring Messi is fake. And, there is no such official news of putting Messi’s photo on the Argentinian banknote. Therefore, the viral claims are wrong.
