To know the reality of the viral video, the DFRAC team reverse-searched some frames of the video. We found a video uploaded on News18 India’s YouTube channel. According to the description given in this video “The punishment for wrongdoing should be given #shorts the boy accused of molesting a girl in Bharuch, Gujarat, was taught a lesson by the people around and beaten up fiercely on the middle of the road, when this beating was being done, a man present there made a video of it. Which is now viral on social media.”

After this, our team searched some keywords in the context of the Bharuch incident. We came across a report published in Gujarati by Divya Bhaskar. On translating the report into Hindi, the details of the incident came to light: “A businessman who molested a student passing through the main market of Jambusar in Bharuch district was beaten up by locals. The video of which has gone viral on social media. It has been learned that even before the police arrived in this case, the locals solved the matter by writing an apology letter to the businessman.”

It is clear from the fact check by DFRAC that there is no communal angle to the incident, as the media reports available in the context of the incident did not mention anything about the religion of the accused and the victim. At the same time, there is no news coverage available from Hindu-Muslim and communal angles in this incident. Therefore, the claim of social media users is wrong.
